After selling two GI Joe items I used the money to pick up the Galactic Heroes AT-AT. I didn't even wait to get home to break the seal as I began trying to untape the box as I sat in rush hour traffic. Once I got one end of the box open I slid out the contents about half way and couldn't wait to get home to fully open it and assemble it.
Once home I open the box and cut the thick string holding the pieces in place. I personally like the thick string they used as it was a lot easier to cut apart instead of the commonly used twisty ties found in other sets. There are only two areas which reuire assembly: the four legs and the two side guns.
The four legs are numbered 1-4 and coincide with their numbered 'hip' joints. The only articulation on the legs is at the ankle and they rotate front and back. The legs themselves are not, in my opinion, one of the better features because once assembled the legs have to stay in one percise position or the entire vehicle looks very unstable.
The main body of the vehicle opens up with a side drop down door. The door features an area where you can clamp in the include white speeder bike. The door will close with the speeder bike clamped in, however you must make sure the speeder bike is exactly clamped in as designed. i had trouble shutting the door the first time with the bike clamped in as the pouches on the back of the bike were barely pushing against an inner support.
The interior of the main body has enough room for two smaller figures and one Darth Vader, at least that is what I have in mine.
The bottom of the main body features a trap door to recreate when Luke slashed it open.
At the top of the body is a black chord which feeds down through the center of the main body and exits through the trap door. The bottom of the chord has a tab which once wrapped around the body of a figure can attach to the black chord. The top of the vehicle has the other end of the chord so you can pull your heroes up through the trap door. At first I dind't care for the chord placement but now that I hvae played with it I see it adds a new dimension of playability.
The head of the vehicle rotates up and down to a 45 degree angle. Has a cock pit with an opening big enough for the included atat driver. The sides of the head is where you attach two guns. Under the chin are two laser guns which i assume once there are batteries not only light up but go in and out. Though I can not prove that as I don't ahve spare batteries at this time.
The AT-AT Driver features 1 point of articulation as his rigth glove holding a gun can spin around. As I am just getting into collecting gh figures I can't readily compare the AT-AT driver with previous releases. It does seem to have great attention focused on his chest piece and the imperial logos on the side of the helmet are really impressive to me.
My wife has yet to come home and our camera is with her so once she gets home I will add pics and as we are out tonight I will try to pick up batteries.
So far I intend to buy at least one or two more to recreate the Hoth battle scene.
