Jesters recent excitement over the new Avengers cartoon got me thinking - and thus this thread - what is the best superhero cartoon of all time? Here's what I came up with....
Superhero Squad - many dont like this chibi style, but once u get past it and understand what theyre trying to do (be a cartoon for REAl lil kids) you can see thet theyre doing a great job of it. I mean, here's a kids cartoon that throws in pretty obscure characters (Screaming Mimi) and addresses bigger themes (Infinity Gauntlet) all while adding the occasional nod to the adults watching. It may not be the best, but it gets an honorable mention.
Young Justice - so far so good. Well done show heading to JLU status. We just need a few more eps (or seasons) before I can decide. The jury is still out.
But here are my top 4:
4. Justice League Unlimited (aka Seasons 3 & 4 of JL) - Great stories and a huge supporting cast that dont use the main 7 as a crutch. It seems like every Timm cartoon show has improved from the last. From Batman and its own evolution, to Superman then Justice League; JLU is the pinnacle. I cant wait to see the Green Lantern series coming in Sept to see if it too tops its predecessor.
3. Wolverine and the XMen - hands down the best Xmen show to date and ALMOST the best Marvel show as well. (For those who are still stuck on the 90s series prolly havent seen it in a while. It hasnt held up well). A good modernization borrowing a bit for actual comics, with great stories and a sweet design that advanced the Timm style; lots of characters with some obscure cameos - it really did get the formula down on how to make a good show. it was possibly the 1st show to really get it. Too bad it didnt last for more than one season as I was on the edge of my seat by the end of the season finale.
2. Batman: Brave & the Bold - Altho it doesnt follow the 'proper' cartoon forumla, it does something that the others dont - make me laugh. The liberties this show takes are great and you never know what to expect. From an insane characterization of Aquaman that names his escapades to musical numbers, all with the corniest Batman since Adam West. It is a masterpiece that wont be repeated any time soon.
1. Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes - Hands down. It took the formula that started with Timm, evolved into JLU then mastered by Wolverine and the XMen and took it up even another notch by adding multiple ongoing storylines and actually keeping closer to the comics than the rest. I really cant say enuff good things abt this show - those who havent seen it really should. I just hope it lasts more than a few seasons. Being only aired on Disney XD cant be a good thing. But this show will be hard to beat.
So what do u guys think? Did I miss anythin? Am I completely wrong? What are your faves?
