I saw those yesterday. Excuse my ignorance, but what is AFA graded?

AFA (Action Figure Authority) grading is a process that will officially grade your toys and hence increase the value by a huge amount
personally I think it's a bit of a con as I'd like to know who made them the authority when peoples idea's of grades are a wide and varied lot
but thats a rant for another time

Yeaaaaaa, I always pretty much saw the AFA grading thing as a crock of bull too. And now especially in a case like these 'Squad' figures. Seriously? I mean....are people THAT Anal about the packaging on these particular lines? Moreover, are these lines THAT Difficult to find in good packaging? I mean, I know some people are openers (Myself) and some folks like MOC, but these aren't that hard to find in good shape. I'm more concerned about what the figures look like *themselves*, what with all the quality control issues. I can honsetly say only one time have I seen a 'Squad' Style 2pk in a damaged package, and the thing was REALLY crushed...otherwise they're always in good shape by the looks of it.
...and since when does Hasbro work with these guys? I noticed they have a few other figure lines on HTS that are AFA 'Graded'. Kinda seedy.
Plus you know damn well the sucker who pays 75 bucks for that Snake eyes set because it's graded or whatever is NEVER going to get that back if they resell it. They'll be lucky to get the $10 Hasbro is charging for the regular set.

Well, it's a good deal if you're into AFA. Seeing as having the pack graded would set you back about $100 between retail, shipping and grading.
No idea why you'd want one though.

They also have the Fertility Idol Mighty Mugg at different grades. I imagine they took items that didn't sell well (especially SDCC Exclusives like these) and graded em to recoup some money...

Though some of these look interesting (signed Cobra commander, rated 9.5. wow.) Usually signing AUTOMATICALLY reduces the grade to 7.0, but since it's from Hasbro direct, it's validated.
Does the G.I. Joe fanbase have a greater demand for AFA stuff?

IMO, AFA or any grading service is worth it if you have loose Star Wars or MOTU or GI Joe figures in really good shape. There's always a market for those lines. Also, MOC Star Wars or MOTU that are excedingly rare and in 7.5 or above condition can DRASTICALLY raise the price. The thing I don't get is getting a large toy/playset/vehicle in a BOX (with no window) graded. Like I saw a Remote Control Sandcrawler graded at an 8.5 or so, but on display, you just see the box, no actual toy. Kinda lame if you ask me...

Okay, thanks for explaining. It does seem a little weird, especially for $75.
